No one would always put in only contraband for people they know always open the bag unless they were playing like idiots. If you act like the victory conditions are "whoever does the best bluff wins" then when you tabulate the actual victory conditions you will discover a different outcome has happened. People somehow don't think of this because they get stuck in the twin ruts of thinking ONE) its fun to be the bag guy and try smuggling and TWO) its fun to catch my friend out in a lie. When you open a players bag, you are kingmaking the always-honest player even if you never open the bag from the always honest player.
If Bob and Charlie hadn't spent so much time and energy "catching" their friend in a lie, a single bag of just one cheese one bread one chicken and one pepper would have been enough to topple what Alex took six bags to do. Three player games have each player be sheriff three times.Įnd of the game has Bob and Charlie with a grand total of zero cards under their character board. Alex gets two apples and Bob gets nothing. Round three: Charlie opens the bag from bob and returns the one from Alex. Alex gets two apples and Charlie gets nothing. Round two: Bob opens the bag from Charlie and returns the bag from Alex. Round one: Alex as sherif opens both bags from Bob and Charlie. Also, both of them are in love with the idea of 'playing the bad guy' so will always stuff their own bags with contraband. They get a thrill of 'catching' their friend in a lie. But each other? They always open each others bag because they just want to mess with their friend. Now say they have played with Alex before and know of his always-honest strategy. But this is just for demonstration purposes.īob and Charlie love the bluffing and screw your neighbor aspects of the game. Obviously this stradegy can be improved uppon. And he will only ever put two cards in his bag. Alex, Bob, and Charlie.Īlex from the very start decides to play the always-honest stradegy but does so is the dumbest most idiotic way imiginable. Let me walk through an extreme example to demonstrate what the problem is.
